DR. DAVID SCAMMELL
OWNER, RIVERS ANIMAL HOSPITAL
Dr. Scammell started working at the Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital as a student for two years before graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph in 1987. Upon his graduation, he began working at the Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital, with five-year tenure at McPhillips Animal Hospital. This is his 32nd anniversary of employment with the Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital!
One of his passions is orthopedic surgery. He is constantly striving to hone his skills through hands-on-courses and the application of new techniques.
Dr. Scammell has served as past president of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association and for 3 years as a council member of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Currently, he sits as a member of the National Examining Board of Canada which is responsible for the administration, in Canada, of a 3-part veterinary licensing process. Completion of the exam is a requirement to be eligible to apply for licensure from any provincial licensing body. He also serves on the Council on Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a group responsible for the accreditation of colleges of veterinary medicine in North America and abroad.
Having always had a soft spot for cats, he encourages his staff in their kitten fostering and adoption endeavours and is the main reason all of his clinics have feline support staff. In his spare time, he enjoys catch-and-release fishing, going back home to Newfoundland, spending time with his children and his cats; Spud and Squid.
DR. CARLY DUNCAN
VETERINARIAN
Dr. Carly Duncan began her veterinary career at the Pembina Veterinary Hospital in May 2017, after graduating from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine the same year. She gained experience working two summers as a veterinary student with the Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital and previously at Rivers Animal Hospital. She is eager to gain new experience here with us.
Dr. Duncan has a three-legged border collie named Lahela with whom she enjoys spending her free time.
LINDSEY
REGISTERED VETERINARY TECHNOLOGIST (RVT)
Lindsey graduated from Red River College in 1995. She began working right after graduation and joined the Rivers Animal Hospital team in 2001. She has travelled to several local, national and international continuing education seminars to upgrade her skills and knowledge as an RVT.
When not at work, Lindsey enjoys travelling and spending time at the cottage with her husband. They have three dogs: Streaker, Jax and Muggs. They also have five cats: Lily, Olive, Whitney, Jett and Wren. All of their cats were orphaned kittens in need of medical care and a loving home.
