Rivers Animal Hospital has been proud to serve the Riverbend area since 2000. Our veterinary clinic is owned and operated by Dr. David Scammell. Dr. Scammell graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1987.
Our veterinary team is committed to providing the best wellness, medical and surgical care for your pet. We are also pleased to offer consultations regarding nutrition, weight management and behavior. At Rivers Animal Hospital, we make sure to stay up to date with advances in veterinary medicine and technology.
Dr. Scammell has served as president of the Manitoba Veterinary Association and for 3 years as council member of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association.
Currently, he sits as a member of the National Examining Board of Canada which is responsible for the administration, in Canada, of a 3-part veterinary licensing process. Completion of the examination is a requirement to be eligible to apply for licensure from any provincial licensing body.
He also serves under the Council of Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association as a site visitor, in a program of accreditation of colleges of veterinary medicine in North America and abroad.
Having always had a soft spot for cats, he encourages his staff in their kitten fostering and adoption endeavors and is the main reason all his clinics have feline support staff. In his spare time, he enjoys catch-and-release fishing, going back home to Newfoundland to see his family, and, of course, spending time with his wife, children, their cats; Bob and Mocha, and two dogs, Tia and Colonel.
Heather is a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) who graduated from Red River College in 1995. She joined Rivers Animal Hospital in 2011. Prior to joining the Rivers team, she worked for many years at our sister hospitals, Pembina Veterinary Hospital and Winnipeg Animal Emergency Hospital. Heather has extensive experience in emergency medicine and critical care.
Heather shares her home with her husband and their three children. They have one adorable dog named Soleil. Heather has a passion for cat rescue and, as a result, shares her home with several felines. All of Heather’s cats were in need of medical treatment and some TLC.
Lindsey is a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) who graduated from Red River College in 1995. She began working right after graduation and joined the Rivers Animal Hospital team in 2001. She has travelled to several local, national and international continuing education seminars to upgrade her skills and knowledge as an RVT.
When not at work, Lindsey enjoys travelling and spending time at the cottage with her husband. They have three dogs: Streaker, Jax and Muggs. They also have five cats: Lily, Olive, Whitney, Jett and Wren. All of their cats were orphaned kittens in need of medical care and a loving home.
